EPZs Start Tree Plantation Program in Memory of Three Million Martyrs

Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has initiated greenery activities in the EPZs through tree plantation as previous years to create eco-friendly & green industrial enclave. The program started on19 July 2018 simultaneously in the eight EPZs under BEPZA in response to the Prime Minister's call and as a part of 3 million saplings plantation program to pay tributes to 3 million martyrs of the Liberation War. BEPZA Executive Office and EPZs will plant about 21 thousand varieties of sapling including woody, fruity and medicinal under the Tree Plantation Program-2018. 

Major General Mohd Habibur Rahman Khan, BSP, ndc, psc, Executive Chairman of BEPZA started tree plantation program by planting a sapling at BEPZA Executive Office in Dhaka. General Managers of Chittagong, Dhaka, Karnaphuli, Adamjee, Comilla, Uttara, Mongla & Ishwardi EPZ under BEPZA located at the different parts of the country simultaneously took part in the program by planting different saplings in their own Zone.

Apart from modern industrialization through the EPZs, BEPZA is very much conscious on conservation of environment. The EPZs have been planting saplings every year in order to maintain ecological balance and beautification. In recognition of outstanding contribution in tree plantation Mongla & Ishwardi EPZs under BEPZA, in 2015 & 2016 consecutively, achieved Prime Minister's National Award for Tree Plantation. These two EPZs obtained 2nd place in Division/Department/Sector Corporation/Institution category.

Mentionable, in the last fiscal year the eight EPZs of the country gained investment US$ 339.54 million, exported goods worth US$ 7,208.27million and created employment opportunities for 26,638 Bangladeshi nationals. BEPZA has been contributing 20% to the total national export. Over 502 thousand Bangladeshi are working in the 476 operational industries of the EPZs.

Among others, Zillur Rahman, NDC, Member (Investment Promotion), Mohammad Faruque Alam, Member (Engineering), Mizanur Rahman, Member (Finance), General Managers of each departments including high officials of BEPZA were present during planting sapling at Executive Office.
