Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) has set a unique example by donating 1500 bags of blood at a time on the eve of 47th Independence Day in remembrance of the genocide of black night of 25th March and the sacrifices of 30 lakh martyrs. Employees of all levels of BEPZA and the workers & employees of the enterprises of EPZs participated in the voluntary blood donation camp  on 23.03.2017 organized simultaneously by BEPZA Executive office and 8 EPZs located in the different parts of the country in association of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as Chief Guest and Suraiya Begum, ndc, Senior Secretary to the PMO as Special Guest were present at the inaugural program held at BEPZA Complex. The EPZs were connected the inaugural program through video conference.

Principal Secretary to the PMO Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury praised BEPZA for coming forward to serve humanity by donating blood voluntarily. He said the initiatives of BEPZA deserves highly appreciate which is exemplary to all government, semi-government and autonomous organizations. He welcomed the initiatives of launching directory containing the information of blood donors at the BEPZA website. Expressing optimism the Principal Secretary said, a soft blood bank would be launched very soon through the national web portal containing the blood donating information of all of the organizations’ employees of the country which will accelerate the efforts of Honourable Prime Minister in making Digital Bangladesh. He lauded the activities and role of BEPZA in socio economic development of Bangladesh especially women empowerment.

Senior Secretary to the PMO Suraiya Begum, ndc thanked BEPZA for taking such initiatives and said, it is the first example of donating more than thousands bags of blood at a time by any organization of the country. She hoped that the example set by BEPZA will motivate the general public in voluntary blood donation.

Executive Chairman of BEPZA Major General Mohd Habibur Rahman Khan, ndc, psc said our today’s initiative is for the remembrance of the genocide of 25th March and the sacrifices of the martyrs of the Liberation War. He said voluntary blood donation is a great example of serving humanity. BEPZA is playing a pioneering role with the EPZs located in the different parts of the country in inspiring all to voluntary blood donations. It will be a great achievement for BEPZA if the donated blood saves the life of critical patient, he added. General Habib said that not only donating 1500 bags of blood but BEPZA has also taken initiative to create a directory of the blood donors of BEPZA. A proposal for creating a soft blood bank database under national web portal has been sent to the PMO, he added. He hoped that the blood donation program will be continued in future.

Md. Abdur Rahman Miah, Senior Assistant Secretary of BEPZA has been honoured at the program as highest blood donor of BEPZA for donating 60th times. Among others, Md. Abdul Halim, Director General, Governance Innovation Unit of PMO, Zillur Rahman, ndc, Member (Investment Promotion) of BEPZA, Md. Mosaddeque Ali, Member (Engineering), Md. Mizanur Rahman, Member (Finance), Md. Nabirul Islam, Secretary and General Managers including employees of all levels of BEPZA were present.

Mentionable that BEPZA has been contributing around 20% of both total national export and FDI for the last couple of years from the eight EPZs of the country containing only 2307.27 acres of land. Investors from 38 countries have invested US$ 4.21 billion. BEPZA exported world famous brand items worth US$ 57.04 billion from the 463 operational enterprises. 4,63,548 Bangladeshi nationals are working in the EPZs.
